Pennsylvania: Jeffery Daye, 28, charged with animal cruelty after leaving his dogs inside a car in 90+ degree weather

PENNSYLVANIA -- A North Union man was charged this week with two summary counts of animal cruelty after his dogs were found inside a parked car when the outside temperature was over 90 degrees.

The two dogs, owned by Jeff Daye, were in a car parked behind a home at 18 Hinsey Ave. on Saturday, according to a police report. Concerned neighbors called police. An officer contacted Daye, who said he was asleep inside the residence.

After Daye complied and removed the dogs from the car immediately, the officer noticed there wasn't a water bowl inside the car.

Neighbors told the officer the dogs previously had been left in the car for a few days at a time and over a 12-hour period in this incident.

Daye argued with the officer, insisting that he didn't “beat” the dogs and didn't think leaving them in the car was animal abuse, police said. Daye's sister was contacted and took the dogs.

Daye was arraigned on two nontraffic citations before Uniontown District Judge Michael Metros.
