Florida: Kitten rescued by Martin County Sheriff's Office almost ready for adoption

FLORIDA --  A black kitten rescued by the Martin County Sheriff's Marine Unit is being prepared for adoption by caretakers.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office has been tracking the safety and progress of a kitten it rescued from the water Tuesday, and is ready to see the kitten find a happy home, Martin County officials said.

The Marine Unit responded to a call near the Roosevelt Bridge from someone who said they could hear cries coming from the water. Officials said they found a tiny kitten climbing onto oysters on the pilings, struggling to stay afloat.

Deputies rescued the kitten, and it was taken to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, where caregivers named him "Roosevelt," after the bridge. The Humane Society has been updating Roosevelt's progress on its Facebook page and is asking people to reach out if they're interested in adopting him.

DROWNING KITTEN’S NINE LIVES SPARED THANKS TO MCSO MARINE UNIT
Let’s start this Tuesday off right!

It’s not a typical water rescue, but this one had everything to do with nine lives. The Martin County Sheriff’s Marine Unit was called to an area near the Roosevelt Bridge after a good Samaritan called to say they could hear tiny cries coming from the water.

MCSO Marine Deputy Michael Labasci went to investigate the sounds, and found this tiny kitten clinging to some oysters on the piling. The kitten was worn out and struggling to stay afloat. Deputy Labasci was able to pull the animal out of the water and get it safely inside the boat. Of course, once on-board, the kitten wanted to stay and hang out with our Marine Unit…..who wouldn’t?

We are pleased to report that the kitten is nice and dry and much safer on land. “Cat”-astrophe diverted!
