Georgia: LaFayette police investigating dog-bite case; 3-year-old bitten in face

GEORGIA -- Authorities are investigating a case in which a babysitter’s dog bit a 3-year-old LaFayette boy in the face.

According to LaFayette police reports:

On Tuesday morning, July 12, police and emergency services were dispatched to a residence on McLemore Street, where they met with babysitter, who said she woke up that morning to the child screaming.

As police entered the home, they discovered the toddler with a washcloth over his mouth and covered in blood. The babysitter said she woke up to the child screaming and the dog barking.

She told police she knew the dog bit the child, but did not know how it happened. She had been babysitting the child and his 5-year-old sister overnight.

When the washcloth was removed, police noticed the child had a large laceration on his mouth and the forehead.

Puckett EMS arrived on the scene and transported the child to T.C. Thompson Children Hospital in Chattanooga and police then notified the child’s mother.

The dog is a labradane — a mix of Great Dane and Labrador.

I swear that is the dumbest name I ever heard... labradane??

Police took the dog into custody to the Walker County Animal Shelter. She told police the dog was not up to date on shots.

The child is expected to recover. No charges have been filed.
