Louisiana: Landrus Forbes, 42, charged with animal cruelty; accused of starving his horses

LOUISIANA -- Based on complaints from concerned citizens, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators and the Bogalusa Police Department animal control officer responded to Riverside Drive in Bogalusa to view 4 horses which were reported to be without proper care or food.

Upon viewing the condition of the horses, officers seized the animals and had them transported to another location where they could receive proper veterinary care.

The owner of the horses, Landrus Ollie Forbes, 42, a resident of Donnell Street in Bogalusa, was arrested on July 6 and transported to the Washington Parish Jail where he is being held with bond set at $20,600. Forbes is charged with:

Cruelty to Animals (four counts)
Misdemeanor Failure to Appear (3 counts)

Sheriff Randy Seal reminds the public, “Each animal owner has a legal obligation to provide proper care for those animals. Failure to do so is a violation of the law. We appreciate the concern of several citizens who alerted us to this problem and are committed to intervene in incidences of animal abuse.”
