Massachusetts: Amy Rose, 41, charged with animal cruelty after allegedly leaving dog in hot car

MASSACHUSETTS -- A North Dighton, Mass., woman faced a cruelty to animals charge after State Police alleged she left her dog locked in her Ford SUV at the Hooksett Rest Area off Interstate 93 while the temperature at the time was over 95 degrees.

Amy Rose, 41, was released on $1,000 bail.

She faces an appearance in Hooksett Circuit Court Aug. 30.

Troopers from the Concord barracks responded at about 3 p.m. Friday after other motorists complained about spotting the dog inside the very hot car with the windows rolled up and the engine turned off.

A witness told authorities the dog had been left in the car for 30-40 minutes.

Troopers found the dog was “visibly in distress” and had to use an unlocking tool to rescue the dog, a chocolate Labrador Retriever named Breelyn.

State Police had to forcibly enter the car after they were unable at first to find Rose. They later located her and charged her with the animal cruelty offense.
