Nebraska: Owner hides pit bull which attacked and killed Chihuahua and attacked its owner

NEBRASKA -- UPDATE: The dog that killed a Chihuahua and bit its owner has been found after the pit bull mix's owner refused to reveal the dog's location.

"We have the dog. The dad called us and had it at his house when we got there. We will set it up on a rabies quarantine period for 10 days which hopefully will keep the victim from undergoing shots," said Mark Langan with the Nebraska Humane Society.

The Nebraska Humane Society cited the pit bull owner for harboring a dangerous dog when the man wouldn't tell where the dog was.

The Humane Society said Nick Corritore's pit bull mix attacked and killed a Chihuahua last week near 142nd Street and West Center Road. The attacking dog also bit the Chihuahua's owner.

Investigators said Corritore promised to turn over the dog to the Humane Society on Monday, which he did not do.

During a meeting on Friday, the Humane Society said Corritore refused to say where the dog was, in violation of a court order.

Corritore is facing six citations from the Humane Society, including obstructing enforcement and failure to quarantine for rabies observation.

The owner of the Chihuahua may be facing shots if the put bull mix is not located.

The Nebraska Humane Society is searching for a dog and its owner after an attack last week left another dog dead.

The attack reportedly occurred around 5 a.m. on Friday inside the Georgetown apartment complex near 142nd Streetand West Center Road.

The Omaha man told police he was walking his two chihuahuas, like he usually does.

The victim told KETV NewsWatch 7 that he did everything he could, including pulling and kicking, to get the pit bull mix off of his Chihuahua, but he said that pit bull was too vicious.

"It just literally came out of nowhere," the dog owner, who asked to remain anonymous, said. "No barks. No growls. There wasn't any sound until it was jumping on me."

The man described the attacking dog as a dark-colored pit bull and Rottweiler mix.

"The owner was nowhere to be found," the victim said. "When I encountered it, it did not have a collar, or leash, or muzzle, or anything like that."

The victim's other dog wasn't hurt, but the victim was bitten.

"I had a little puncture right here on my arm," the victim said.

Authorities say it’s unknown whether the victim will have to get rabies shots, because the dog and its owner are on the run. The Nebraska Humane Society said it obtained a court order to impound the dog and even gave the owner three citations.

"In 2013, this dog was involved in attacking another dog, so obviously there's some issues with this dog. Issues with the owner for not being cooperative with us," said Mark Langan, of the Nebraska Humane Society.
