Police discovered the dogs at the home in the 200 block of North 12th Street after receiving a complaint from a neighbor.
Based on information obtained from neighbor, police determined that the home had been vacant for two to three weeks before they arrived.
The dogs were taken into custody by Elwood Animal Control. Officials say they were completely dehydrated and covered in fleas, which caused them to be anemic. They are now reportedly doing well after being bathed, dewormed, given flea baths, fed and given fluids.
Police say they are continuing to investigate and possible charges will be filed against the owner or owners of the home when they are located.
