Michigan: Bystander comes to aid of woman attacked by loose pit bulls

MICHIGAN -- A woman was transported to the hospital after being attacked by two loose pit bulls in a Jackson neighborhood Monday afternoon.

Police responded to Henry Ford Allegiance Health for a dog bite complaint that occurred about 12:15 p.m., Aug. 22 in the 900 block of S. Jackson Street, said Jackson Police Deputy Chief Elmer Hitt.

The victim, a 33-year-old woman, told police she was walking on the sidewalk when two large pit bulls loose in the street came at her and attacked, Hitt said.

One of the dogs knocked her down to the ground while the other viciously tore into her leg and buttocks area, Hitt said.

A bystander who witnessed the attack rushed over and knocked the dogs off of the pinned woman and pulled her to safety, Hitt said.

Officers investigating the attack we able to identify the owner of the dogs but were unable to make contact with him as he is currently out of state, Hitt said.

Witnesses informed police the dogs were picked up by an acquaintance of the owner after the attack, as police have not been able to locate the animals at this time, Hitt said.

So basically they've fled with the dogs and are hiding them...

The woman was treated at Henry Ford Allegiance Health for non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.
