New York: Rochester police shoot, wound aggressive pit bull after it chased people

NEW YORK -- Authorities say Rochester police officers had to shoot a pit bull after it charged at them while running loose and chasing people.

Police say they were called Monday morning for reports of an aggressive dog on a Rochester street.

When officers arrived, the pit pull ran at them, forcing one of the officers to fire. The dog was hit by a least one bullet before running away.

Police tracked down the owner, who picked up the female pit bull and put her in the back of a patrol car. The dog was taken to the emergency animal hospital for treatment.

No people were injured.

The police department says the incident is still being investigated.

Neighbors said it was the same pit bull that was seen chasing people in the neighborhood recently.
