North Carolina: Cary man facing charges after allegedly leaving dog outside for hours without food, water

NORTH CAROLINA -- A Cary man is facing animal cruelty charges after he allegedly left his dog outside for several hours in the extreme heat on Saturday, according to Town of Cary officials.

According to officials, Thomas Hugh Byrd, 54, was charged with misdemeanor cruelty to animals after he left his 16-month-old Boston Terrier, “Maverick,” out on an uncovered terrace without food or water on a day where temperatures soared into the mid-to-upper 90s and the heat index reached over 100 degrees.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment and was still there as of Monday afternoon.
