OREGON -- A Salem woman was arrested Saturday, less than a month after neighbors told deputies they were concerned about her horse’s welfare.
Deputies went to 46-year-old Randi Jae Solorzano’s home on the 7400 block of Conifer Street NE on July 29 and said they were “instantly concerned” about the horse. The animal’s ribs and hips were “clearly showing”, according to deputies.
Solorzano said Doug, her 20-year-old horse, was being treated by a veterinarian for a dental condition that was preventing him from eating. Deputies contacted the veterinarian who told them the horse was placed on medication and that Solorzano had been given a specific diet to feed Doug in order to put weight back onto him.
Deputies reportedly worked closely with the veterinarian and drove by Solorzano’s property regularly to monitor Doug’s condition, Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.
After missing veterinarian appointments and the horse's physical condition worsening, on August 13th deputies executed a search warrant seized Doug and arrested Ms. Solorzano for Animal Neglect II.
Doug has been taken to a rescue where he is receiving the necessary care to recover.
Ms. Solorzano was taken to the Marion County Jail and later released, she is set to appear in court September 12th at 9:30 a.m. at the Circuit Court Annex.
