United Kingdom: Cat dies after getting 'ripped apart' by pit bull

UNITED KINGDOM -- A Dundee woman has been left distraught after her cat died when a dog “ripped it apart”.

Linda Cochrane, of the Blackness area, was told the shocking news by a neighbor — her 12-year-old cat was set upon by what is thought to be a Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier.

It was then dragged down Glenagnes Road, near her home.

The 57-year-old grandmother was in her flat looking after her granddaughter when the attack happened.

Linda added: “The dog ran for my cat and ripped him a part. My cat was just sitting outside the front door when it happened.

“The dog wasn’t on a lead and it ran straight for him with the intent to kill. It ripped through his neck and his chest and dragged him right down Glenagnes Road.

“I was absolutely horrified when I heard what happened and I was left feeling disgusted when I saw him lying in the middle of the road.

“My daughter’s boyfriend took him and buried him in the woods at Tealing.”

The incident, which happened at around 2pm on Sunday, has prompted Linda to call for all dogs to be kept on leads when being walked through residential areas.

She added: “If the dog that did this was on a lead, my cat would still be alive. It was reported to the police and when they got here they said that it was in the dog’s nature to do what it did and there was no law to keep dogs on their leads.

“If that’s the case then I think there should be. That dog attacked my cat with the intent to kill it.

“Dangerous dogs like that should be kept on the lead at all times — especially when they are in built-up areas where lots of cats can be found.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Anyone with information regarding an incident involving a dog being responsible for the fatal injuries of a cat in Glenagnes Road, Dundee, at about 2.40pm on Sunday afternoon is asked to contact Police Scotland.

“Police are keen to trace a man who was wearing a light blue hooded top with the letters NYC on it that was walking a terrier-type dog and another dog at the time.”
