VIRGINIA -- A pet groomer is facing a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge.
Mironda Henning, owner of pet grooming salon The Fuzzy Butt Stops Here, is accused of being abusive to a cockapoo dog, according to court documents.
The criminal complaint states that Henning was “jerking the dog around, roughly handling the dog and flipping it around” while grooming the pet on May 18.
James City County Police Spokeswoman Stephanie Williams told 10 On Your Side that a former employee took video of the incident.
Henning was charged in July.
10 On Your Side went to the business, located on Strawberry Plains Road, Wednesday.
A rude employee wearing a tie-dyed t-shirt quickly escorted our crew out of the salon, refusing to comment except to keep saying, "Goodbye! Goodbye!".
10 On Your Side later went to Henning’s listed home address, but no one responded to repeated knocks despite hearing yelling and dogs barking inside the house.
Her attorney, Jim Hannon, had no comment when reached over the phone.
“I’m shocked,” said customer Cindy Devore. “I’ve never had anything but good experiences myself.”
Customer Georgia Holtz was also surprised by the allegations, and stated that she has never had any complaints regarding service.
“I truly believe that whoever takes care of my dogs does a great job,” Holtz said. “They’ve never been anything but great.”
The tie-dyed t-shirt employee then came out into the parking lot with a cordless phone to her ear huffing and puffing to the police that they were trespassing - despite the customer only having good things to say about the business.
Investigators would not release the video that allegedly depicts the abuse.
Police stated there is no record of any pets being injured at the salon.
The salon’s Facebook page states that it offers “low stress grooming” where pets “experience a soothing and relaxing environment.”
Henning is due back in court later this month.
