Washington: Why people shouldn't be allowed to chain their dogs

WASHINGTON -- Although this video was originally posted in 2011, it's the first time I've seen it so I'm posting it.

In the video, this guy says he was called by animal control for help in removing a dog from its owner's property.

"No one could touch him, including the guy who owned him."

He approaches this aggressive German Shepherd, which has probably spent most of its life, at the back of this property by itself on a chain. This is the dog's whole world and now this strange man is approaching him. The guy nearly gets bitten several times and I don't necessarily agree with his methods, but it works out in the end.

Watch the video and see this amazing transformation (if the video isn't appearing below, click HERE to watch it on YouTube):

In the video, he says that the dog will be going up for adoption soon. I hope before putting him up for adoption that they put him in a foster home first to try to normalize him to real life. Any animal which has been ignored most of its life has not been socialized to children, other animals, people reaching towards its food bowl, etc.

Remember in the movie "Shawshank Redemption" when the old man Brooks was released from prison and didn't know how to cope in the real world? That's what this is like. This dog spent most of its life chained in the yard all by himself. He needs to learn to live in society, just like Brooks.

I do hope, though, that the dog found a new family who will cherish him as the family companion he was meant to be.
