Arizona: Scott Brister and Rhonda Romine arrested in animal cruelty / bestiality case

ARIZONA -- An Arizona man and woman are facing felony charges after they tried to set up a sexual encounter with a dog, authorities said.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said Scott Brister, of Tempe, placed an ad on a bestiality website looking for a dog to have intercourse with Rhonda Romine, of Phoenix.

Brister's ad, according to the MCSO, read "My slave and I are looking for a dog and owner for her first time. We want her mounted and she will also take care of the owner (male or female). Just shoot me a message."

The MCSO said Brister planned on videotaping the encounter.

An animal crimes detective responded to the ad and offered up a dog for the couple. Romine and Brister were arrested Friday, July 22, when they met up with the undercover detective at a Tempe hotel.

Brister, 45, was booked on a Class 3 felony for arranging the sexual encounter between while Romine, 26, was booked on a Class 6 felony on charges of conspiracy to commit bestiality.

The MCSO said both Romine and Brister admitted to the crime and the dog was not injured.

"Once again, this is bestiality case No. 11 for my office," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a news release. "These investigations are becoming more difficult because of the 'Zoosexual' community checklist found online. You can be sure, we will continue to make arrests in cases just like this one regardless of their attempts to outsmart my detectives."

“I’m going to keep enforcing these animal cruelty laws as long as I’m the sheriff,” Arpaio said. “Everybody needs to know that if you’re going to abuse animals in Maricopa County, you’re going to get busted.”
