Michigan: Veterinarian accused of abandoning animal rescue and leaving cats to die

MICHIGAN -- It is a scene that has animal rescue people struggling to deal with.

What was a cat sanctuary near Perry, run by a veterinarian, had fallen into disrepair and the buildings were condemned.

Officials say the owner of the sanctuary walked away from the failing facility, leaving the animals to die.

The owner of the facility is on the scene right now along with their lawyers.

6 News also has a crew over there and we’ve been watching the action all day long.

Our Aaron Dimick tells us the animals are still coming out and at last check officials counted a little over 120 cats.

Police are on the scene and animal control officials are as well.

We told the conditions of the cats varies, with some looking better than others.

UPDATE
Troy Clarke, the attorney for the owner of the residence, says “the owner is there daily to care for the cats. Any suggestion that she walked away or abandoned the cats to die is completely inaccurate.”
