Oklahoma: Yvonne McBride neglected and abused more than 70 dogs. Judge lets her plead to "public nuisance", which will be dismissed after her probation

OKLAHOMA -- A Bixby woman arrested on a felony complaint of animal cruelty has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of public nuisance, which is a misdemeanor.

A judge gave Yvonne McBride a deferred sentence.

Animal Control and Bixby police were called to investigate at a home where Yvonne McBride, 49, kept 68 dogs and four cats without obtaining a kennel license. Authorities say when they reached the house, no one answered the door, but they could see a woman hitting one of the many dogs with a stick.

After asking the woman to stop hitting the dog, the officers say they noticed her trying to leave the home through the garage door. When they approached the woman, later identified as McBride, they asked her about not answering the door, and she told them she didn’t answer because she didn’t want the officers to take away the dogs.

Police found nearly 70 dogs and cats in McBride's home. They say she tried to run a rescue operation but kept taking in animals without finding them new homes.

This is a mental illness. An overwhelming desire to keep "saving" without bothering to do anything about the animals already stuffed inside their house. They also enjoy the accolades they get from other rescuers and shelters who are in awe of how many dogs they're able to rehome - when in reality, NONE of the animals are being rehomed.

According to an arrest report, Bixby Police told McBride's husband months ago that the dogs would need to be moved. The animals were apparently moved to Sand Springs [so that Animal Control would believe they had gotten rid of them], but then brought them back to the Bixby house.

A family member of McBride's calls the animal cruelty charge "ridiculous." The family member said McBride would never abuse any of the animals, and spent "thousands" making sure they were well cared for.

The Humane Society of Tulsa rescued the dogs.
