Virginia: Breeder Gretchen Post, 72, charged with animal cruelty as well as practicing veterinary medicine without a license

VIRGINIA -- A Mineral woman faces charges of cruelty to animals and practicing veterinary medicine without a license after several sick or dead dogs were allegedly found in her care.

Two dead puppies and four live ones, including a hound and one Labrador, were seized on July 18 from a Thacker Road property across from the home of Gretchen Post, 72, according to a warrant executed by the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office.

Post was charged on July 25 with six counts of animal cruelty, one for each dog.

A man house-sitting for Post told the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office that he found the dogs on July 15 on a property across from her home, according to an affidavit for a search warrant filed at Louisa Circuit Court.

The dogs belonged to Post, he said.
