"Meadview man Jerry Doty charged with attempted murder"

ARIZONA -- A grand jury has indicted a Meadview man on attempted first-degree murder charges.

Authorities say Jerry Lynn Doty, 53, held the barrel of a gun to his 45 year-old girlfriend's throat and pulled the trigger three times during an incident on May 26. The gun failed to go off, most likely because moments before that Doty reportedly slammed the gun into a television set, nearly breaking the butt of the gun in half.

According to court documents, the incident started after Doty stormed into a fifth-wheel trailer occupied by the woman. He allegedly pointed a gun at the woman's head and demanded the title to a truck in his brother's name.

The woman eventually found the title but refused to forge the brother's name as requested by Doty. That's when he allegedly slammed the gun into a television set and then tried to shoot the woman.

After the gun failed to go off, Doty then reportedly pulled out a knife from his pocket and tried to stab the woman. He missed and reportedly lodged the knife inside the broken television set.

Doty also faces several aggravated assault charges. He was in court Tuesday for a routine case management hearing.
