California: Young man mauled in the face by dog while raising money for D.A.R.E.

CALIFORNIA -- A young man was mauled in the face by a dog while raising money for an anti-drug abuse program outside an Eagle Rock sandwich shop, and now his family is asking for help finding the dog’s owners.

The attack occurred Thursday evening outside Jersey Mike’s at 2601 Colorado Blvd., near the Glendale border, KTLA reports.

The victim’s father, Brian Alli, shared graphic photos of his son’s wounds on Facebook, saying the dog attacked unprovoked. He son Ian is a dog lover who ended up in surgery, Alli wrote.

“My son is now hospitalized and will need plastic surgery tonight and into the morning,” Alli wrote about 9 p.m. Thursday.

“The one thing we need is to get the word out and get the owner and the dog to help him by coming forward,” Alli wrote later in the night. “They need to test the dog and obviously, get it off the street.”

Alli’s son said two women in their 20s had the dog, but another witness told police it was a man.

Los Angeles Police Department Officer Aareon Jefferson told KTLA a call came in at 6:55 p.m. Thursday for a report of a dog bite. The victim had been soliciting money for the drug abuse prevention program D.A.R.E. when the dog owner gave him $10 and left.

About two hours later, the dog owner returned with a pit bull on a leash, Jefferson said. The victim asked if the dog was friendly, and the owner [said yes].

[In the video] Ian said that he put his hand out and the dog rubbed against it twice and then suddenly lunged and bit him above the eye and before he had time to react lunged a second time and gripped his face and then wouldn't let go (aka locked on to his face and began tugging).

The victim was taken to a local hospital, and officer canvassed the area but didn’t find the dog owner, the officer said.

In the video, Ian's dad complains that he didn't get a call back from the police and only after the media did the news story did they finally hear that "oh animal control is going to look for the dog". Basically the dad is the one doing all the legwork.

Animal control services were notified, according to Jefferson.

Ian Alli is stable, his father said Thursday night. He was expected to have his first operation Friday morning.

An emergency technician who was eating at the sandwich shop came to his son’s aid, Brian Alli said.

The family is waiting on surveillance video, he said Friday morning.

Ian Alli was being treated at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Brian Alli said. He suffered wounds to his lips, face, cheek and teeth. He was undergoing extensive plastic surgery on Friday night.

A GoFundMe account has been set up by Ian's parents to pay for his medical bills.

"Since he is just starting out in life with a Fiancee and new born baby, this will drain the little money they have saved," the page states. "Plastic Surgery will be required for his lip. His face will most likely be scarred for life. "

FROM DAD'S FACEBOOK PAGE:
PLEASE HELP! Around 7pm at the Jersey Mike's in Glendale CA, my son was raising money for DARE at his current job. The dog owner(s) with their dog made a donation and shortly after as they came back by and the dog viscously attacked him unprovoked. (He is a dog lover) The owner or owners description is conflicting and we are seeking eye witnesses. My son and one eye witness said it belonged to two girls in their 20's but the police report and another witness say an adult male. He is too medicated now to know and we need to find this dog as it will be a huge help to infectious decease specialists and plastic surgeons working on him. It is a pit-bull mix, and they all fled the scene. My son is now hospitalized and will need plastic surgery tonight and into the morning. PLEASE SHARE THIS AND HELP ME FIND THE OWNER(S) AND DOG THAT FLED THE SCENE. Julie is at the hospital now. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SHARE THIS AND FIND THEM. Message me with info, trying to get media awareness and police help now, I may not reply quickly but can use any info you have. If you saw anything please reach out. Thx

UPDATE ON IAN:
he was awake this morning before they medicated him again and gave a video statement to me. I'm not going to release just yet but he confirmed that the dog belonged to two girls NOT a man as the police report stated. One Hispanic "a little tubby" in his words, and one white girl with glasses both around 5'7". The dog is a 2 year old pit-bull mix, white with brown spots and a curved tail. He has a lot more info but I really want to talk to the police first so spread this word and I'll update with more soon. Again, the attack took place at 7 last night outside the Eagle Rock Jersey Mikes Sandwich shop. If you have info call the LAPD Northeast Patrol Division. He needs your help. Thank you all for your messages and support.
