KENTUCKY -- A woman is recovering this morning after police say she was attacked by a dog, and now officers are trying to determine if its owner will face any charges.
The incident happened just before 8 p.m. Friday in the 1600 hundred block of Arcade Avenue off Taylor Boulevard just north of the Watterson.
Police say they found a woman who had been mauled by a pit bull when they arrived on scene.
Neighbors said they were "shocked" because they know the owner and the dog and can't believe it would attack anyone.
Neighbor William Williams said, "It's shocking. I can't believe. I've seen the dog walking around plenty of times... we all have children. I've been around it, I've petted it... It's very, very disheartening."
Neighbors also said the owner had [supposedly] "rescued" the pit bull, that when he had gotten him the dog was malnourished and had been treated poorly. The owner had nursed him back to health, they say.
Used "surprised owner" label/tag even though it's the neighbors who say they are surprised.
Police say they're still not sure of the exact circumstances of the incident and at this time do not know if any charges will be filed.
