Massachusetts: Siberian Husky in quarantine after biting four people in Brockton

MASSACHUSETTS -- Around 8:15 a.m., animal control received a call about a reported dog bite. While en route to the location, they learned of another bite.

When animal control arrived at the scene on Brian Drive, the dog, unprovoked, approached a firefighter on scene and bit him.

The firefighter and an animal control officer then proceeded to restrain the dog and in the process, the animal control officer was bitten on the right hand and the firefighter was bitten on both hands.

Both were brought to the hospital and treated for bite wounds and then released.

Two other people were also bitten, said animal control. A 44-year-old man, Eric, was bitten on the left hand and the dog bit a 75-year-old woman on her right arm.

“When I went to him, approached him, he kind latched on,” Eric told FOX25.

Eric said he heard his two dogs going crazy right by his fence in his backyard. At that point, he came out to see what was going on, and he says the white dog jumped up and bit him right on the arm.

Eric only suffered a minor bite, but the three others required medical attention at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Animal Control said the dog, Leo, is owned by Zukeby Brea Roa of 44 Brian Dr.  The dog is a male, white husky and is currently being held at Animal Control.

Brockton’s mayor said the city will hold a hearing to figure out what to do with the husky, but he made it clear: he wants the dog put down.

“My feeling is [the dog] bit four people in one day. I’ve seen and heard enough. In my mind the dog is dangerous and my hope will be the owner will just work with us voluntarily, sign over the dog and give us permission for it to be euthanized,” said Bill Carpenter.

FOX25 tried to speak with Leo’s owners, but no one answered the door. They told FOX25 over the phone they had no comment.

The owner could be charged because there are leash laws for the town. Right now, investigators are working to figure out exactly how the dog was able to get out.

Leo’s owner has been cited by the city of Brockton before.

Both the firefighter and the animal control officer have been released. The 75-year-old woman was still receiving treatment at a hospital this afternoon.
