New Hampshire: Jonathan Brooks and Stephanie Rapp-Brooks accused of starving horses

NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Two people from Whitefield turned themselves into police Monday on outstanding warrants for animal cruelty charges.

New Hampshire State Police said Jonathan Brooks and Stephanie Rapp-Brooks were each charged with four counts of animal cruelty.

The charges were the result of an investigation into a possible case of horse neglect on Aug. 13 in Dalton.

The New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals treated 10 horses that were surrendered by a farm in Dalton.

State police got involved in the case following complaints of neglect, but no charges have been filed. Authorities said the owners surrendered 10 of 17 horses voluntarily.

Brooks and Rapp-Brooks will be arraigned in Lancaster on Nov. 7.

Back in August when the story first broke, Stephanie Rapp Brooks posted on their business Facebook page "Desert Valley Equestrian Center, Inc."

With all going on, I thank those who get facts first. Yes a horse has an injury, picture going around is a couple days old. He is being treated and I will post a pic from today. All horses have free feed hay and water. They also get alfalfa cubes and diatamacious earth daily. A few also get beet pulp and senior grain as well. Corrals came last weekend, same time as horses. Today first day I had off since and they are going up. Lots of natural shelter and I am working on more. No there is no grass pasture but they have 18.5 acres for most to roam. A few have small pens for now until a separate area can be fenced. Farrier appointments both tomorrow and next Saturday as yes some are in need. Again they arrived in need and it is being cared for. All horses have had coggins, rabies, and even tetanus by vet. If anyone wants to do the right thing and ask to come see, I have no problem as nothing to hide. However on my property without permission you will be reported for trespassing.

Kristi Lynn: I too have a sanctuary and do rescue. I understand the challenges and personal sacrifice. But the conditions that were reported, regardless of what was "coming" is no excuse. Sometimes it's necessary to reach out to others for help during transitions. It's too bad it took a viral thread for action.

Desert Valley Equestrian Center, Inc:. I had been working on it even before this started.

Colleen Lyn Foster: So the person that posted they were being neglected jumped to conclusions and so did I and I'm sorry for that I am vary happy they r getting the care they need. And thank u for taking them in when they needed it the most
