New Hampshire: More than 30 dogs and puppies - mostly pit bulls and pit bull mixes being kept inside ammonia-filled home. Kevin Rocheville facing charges

NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Animal control officers from four towns executed a search warrant at a house here Tuesday morning and seized 18 dogs living in foul conditions, with animal cruelty charges expected soon for the property’s owner.

Pelham police said all the dogs seized were taken to Rockingham Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Windham.

The whereabouts of 15 other dogs — all pit bulls or pit bull mixes — believed to be under the resident’s care remain unknown, and police are seeking the public’s help finding them.

If he won't tell you where they are, charge him for obstruction. That's a much more serious charge than a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge - likely a felony.

Pelham Animal Control Officer Allison Caprigno, working with ACOs from Hudson, Salem and Windham, entered the Jonathon Street residence at about 9:25 a.m. Tuesday.

The property’s owner, Kevin Rocheville, 49, will likely face related charges, according to authorities.

Police said Caprigno and her colleagues found five dogs in the basement, two in cages in the kitchen, one locked in a bathroom, one in a kennel outside and one upstairs with eight new puppies.

Many of the dogs were pit bulls, though the new mother was a Rottweiler mix. At least one pit bull was aggressive and one seemed undernourished.

A stench of urine and ammonia greeted the ACOs when they entered, police said. Inside, they found puddles of urine on the basement garage floor and feces left on carpets and floors in several rooms.

And the inside of the bathroom door was torn apart, apparently from locked-in dogs scratching at it for so long.

Anybody with information about the possibly missing 15 other dogs is encouraged to contact Caprigno at (603) 635-2411 or acaprigno@pelhampolice.com.

Apparently, Kevin Rocheville convinced this rescue group run by Jody Harris-Stern called Looking Glass Animal Rescue into giving him a dog just this past May. However, like most rescue groups, I doubt that anyone bothered to go to his house to make sure he didn't have 30+ dogs and puppies living in inhumane conditions.

Searching for more info on Rocheville, I found these:

According to the tax records, his house is valued at nearly half a million dollars ($435,700). I doubt it's worth that much now since it's full of fecal matter, urine and ammonia.
