Kris Myers identified himself to Pittsburgh's Action News 4 as the owner of Nyla. He said he adopted her in February for his 6-year-old foster daughter as a gift for her school achievements.
In an interview with Pittsburgh's Action News 4, Kendra Foos of New Kensington said she contacted Myers after seeing surveillance video from a McKeesport homeowner that allegedly shows Myers with the dog.
Foos questions Myers’ treatment of the dog in the video, but Myers claims the dog had gotten out of the fence, and he smacked it.
“I had a dolly in my sidewalk so I picked it up and moved it out of the way and then I grabbed the dog by its collar, smacked it on its butt, and picked it up and put it in the house,” said Myers. He said he smacked the dog because it got out of the fence and was running toward a girl who was walking her dog.
What I see is him raising this metal dolly up over his head and slamming it down on top of the dog, which had to have been cowering.
He claimed Foos had him sign a handwritten document, which he did, giving up ownership of the dog.
“She made me sign the paper over saying they were going to kill my dog if I didn't sign the paper over,” said Myers.
The dog was not removed by the officer, but instead given to Foos by Myers.
The case remains under investigation and no charges have been filed. The investigating officer has not returned Pittsburgh's Action News 4’s call for comment regarding where Nyla will go when the investigation is closed – or if she will be returned if no charges are filed.
