South Carolina: Police say Bryan Livengood, 51, beat a Chihuahua to death with a piece of lumber

SOUTH CAROLINA -- A man was arrested by North Myrtle Beach police after officials say he killed a Chihuahua.

Bryan Lee Livengood, 51, of Ocean Isle, N.C., was charged with ill treatment of animals.

Officers responded to a home on Seaside Drive on Oct. 21 in reference to animal abuse. The caller told police that Livengood hit his dog, a black Chihuahua, with a piece of lumber and killed it.

Livengood told police that the dog bit him on the left calf, causing him to bleed and he picked up a piece of lumber and struck the dog once. He told police that the dog ran off, according to the report.

The complainant, however, told police that Livengood struck the dog multiple times with the lumber.

The dog died on the way to a veterinarian’s office.

After an investigation, the officer wrote in the report that the dog went up to sniff Livengood’s leg and that Livengood kicked the dog. The dog then came back and bit him on the leg, according to the report.

The report says then that Livengood kicked at him and hit the dog. The dog then let out a yelp and ran around to the other side of the house.

The complainant said Livengood then went to his car and got a flashlight and a piece of wood and ran the dog down on the back porch and began beating it with the piece of wood, according to the report.

He then began bragging about killing the dog, according to the report.

The officer also wrote that when they arrived on scene, Livengood had a flashlight in hand and the dog was on the back porch, even though Livengood stated he hit him with the stick in the front yard.

His was arrested on Nov. 10 at 12:46 a.m. and released on $7,500 bond at 3:46 p.m. on Nov. 10.
