FLORIDA -- A three-year-old boy was flown to the hospital after being attacked by a pit bull Wednesday, Groveland police said.
The boy and his mother were visiting a neighbor about 5 p.m. on Savage Way.
The woman and her son had both just gone through a latched gate to the backyard when the dog lunged at the boy, said Groveland police Interim Chief Todd English.
The boy had extensive wounds to his neck and the back of his head, English said. He was flown to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa and is in stable condition.
