Montana: Muriel Everly, 70, pleads not guilty to animal cruelty charges

MONTANA -- A Creston woman made her first court appearance Thursday on animal abuse charges in Flathead County.

Muriel G. Everly, 70, pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of animal abuse in Flathead County District Court, including felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

Court documents state that 37 dogs and several horses were seized last month from the Creston property.

Most of the dogs were in poor health with broken legs and jaw problems, and some had to be euthanized.

Everly relinquished all ownership of the animals to the Flathead County Animal Shelter and many have been adopted.

She is due back in court in late June.

Everly could face up to two years in the Montana Department of Corrections and a $2,500 fine if she's convicted on the charges.
