TEXAS -- A police K-9 was attacked by a stray pit bull while assisting in a police chase in southwest Houston Sunday, police say.
According to investigators, a police officer pulled over a driver on west Orem around 8:30 p.m. Police said the driver gave a fake name, then drove off.
The officer chased the vehicle until the driver stopped and tried to run off with a passenger, according to investigators.
When an officer sent his dog after the pair, police said a stray pit bull went after the police dog.
Police said the officer shot the pit bull. The dog was later picked up by animal control.
Investigators have not released the condition of the K-9 or the pit bull.
The driver and the passenger were arrested.
According to police, the driver had an outstanding warrant for burglary.
