California: Pit bull attacks 10-year-old in the face in Fontana; injury described as "severe"

CALIFORNIA -- A 10-year-old child was severely bitten in the face by a pit bull Thursday afternoon and taken to an area hospital for surgery, Fontana police say.

The child, whose gender was not identified, was taken to a local hospital, Fontana police said in a statement.

The dog was seized and placed in quarantine, pending further investigation, the report said.

The dog attack occurred in the 14800 block of Woodland Drive, Fontana police said.
