Pennsylvania: 14-month old mauled in the face by pit bull. Injuries so severe he had to be flown to Children's Hospital

PENNSYLVANIA -- Friday afternoon left a 14-month old baby boy with severe facial injuries obtained in a pit bull attack, authorities stated to the news media.

The 14-month old was walking with his mother and father on Chestnut Street near Locust Street when a pit bull bit the child’s face, just before 3:30pm.

The father quickly got what was described as a "blue-nosed pit bull" off the child. The father stated he threw the dog across the street while the mother escaped with the child up the road.

The Butler Fire Department stated the child was conscious but with an 8-inch long cut on the left side of the child’s face.

The child was rushed to Butler Memorial Hospital and, due to the severity of her injuries, was then flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for further treatment.
