South Africa: Two pit bulls attacked and severely injured a man while he was jogging on the beach

SOUTH AFRICA -- Two pit bulls attacked and severely injured a man on Monday morning while he was jogging on the beach at Tinley Manor on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

Janus van Schalkwyk‚ a paramedic with IPSS Medical Rescue ALS, said the victim, 30, sustained extensive injuries to his face and  both arms and legs.

Van Schalkwyk confirmed that the dogs belonged to a resident who lived in the area.

“The victim tried to fight off the dogs and when the owner saw what was happening, he rushed to the man’s aid,” van Schalkwyk, said.

Unfortunately “the jogger suffered significant soft-tissue damage to his biceps and his left leg”.

The pit bulls have not yet been removed from their owner.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital where he is “in very bad condition”, according to his sister.

He is currently in a stable condition.
