California: Pit Bull and Mastiff adopted from shelter; new owners take them to dog park where they proceed to maul two little dogs - killing one

CALIFORNIA -- My precious Diego [in loving memory] passed away due to a pit bull (off leash) attack at our local park Sunday, October 1, 2017.

The owners of the pit bull also had a mastiff (off leash) who attacked my other dog Sammy within minutes of Diego where he was taken down by the neck and critically, then fatally wounded.

He was adopted from The Shelter on the Hill 4 years ago and will be sorely missed each day.

Sammy [thankfully doing better] had extensive damage to her underbelly.  Her staples and sutures have been removed now.

Sammy survived the Mastiff attack

At this point expenses for vet bills and medical supplies are at $1800 and so hoping to recoup some of that amount, if possible, since finances are tight and not getting any assistance from the people responsible.

The pit bull and mastiff were adopted out to the current owners December 2016 by The Shelter on the Hill.

Kern County Title 7 regs need to be drastically improved as Animal Control did nothing to the owners  or the dogs themselves.

The Animal Services Commission, a five-member panel, meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month in Bakersfield, if anyone is interested in presenting or getting together to discuss possible changes to existing law, which I am open to doing to help prevent this type of event from occurring again and to put stricter measures in place to deal with (what seems to me) animal cruelty and  willful negligence.

In appreciation, yours truly~
Melanie
