Florida: Dachshund named Oliver nearly killed by a Pit Bull

FLORIDA -- With Hurricane Irma on path to South Florida, my sister's miniature dachshund, Oliver, was attacked by a pit bull.

The attacked lasted quite a while before the dog could be pulled off of Oliver, who went unconscious.

Damage to the trachea, throat, and stomach led him to the vet emergency room overnight last night, fighting for his life.

Oliver is a very good boy and has done his best to fight this and pulled through his first night.

While others are making preparations for Hurricane Irma, my sister has been back and forth at the emergency vet.

Any donation would be greatly appreciated.

For those of you who know my sister Amy; you know she goes out of her way to help others and now is our chance to do the same for her and her little man Oliver.  In advance, thank you all.  And please share this fundraiser.

Oliver is being cared for at Pet Calls Animal Hospital, as well as a local ER.  Their contact number is 561-434-2097 if you would like to donate directly.  Oliver Freeman's Mom is Amy Freeman.  Please remember that hurricane Irma, is on her way and the area will be devastated. Power outages are expected to be widespread and prolonged.  Contact will be limited.

Oliver is improving.  The IV was taken out today and the drain tubes remain and are working.  He is on pain medication, anti-inflammatory meds and antibiotics.  Oliver is becoming more alert and even barked.  This is all great news!!
It appears, dare I say it, he is out of the woods, hopefully.

There will be some work involved in warding of infections during the storm with anticipated loss of power and an limitation on movement during this long storm event.

For now, Oliver is resting and home most of the time, with less time at the animal hospital.

We might not have an update immediately after the hurricane hits so I will be praying for them, Oliver and everyone else.  May you all be safe.

Thank you all for your support to help my sister!  Truly humbling to know she has many wonderful friends...

The Vet removed the drain tubes via flashlight as power was still out.  Continued healing for little Oliver Twist.  He is a fighter.  Hard to believe that a week ago we almost lost him...  Appreciate all the support towards these costly veterinary bills.  Your help means so much to us!  Better photos to follow.  This was all that could be taken under low light conditions.  He is sleeping now so don't want to disturb him.

Message from Amy:
Thank you all so much for your support. I can't even tell you how much it means to me. We made it through Hurricane Irma, although Oliver wad feeling it for sure. We are hoping the vet didn't sustain too much damage as we are headed over their for a follow-up soon. We are hoping that they can remove his drains today. He is napping right now. Thanks again for all the love and support.

Going home after the uncomfortable drain tubes were removed.  Oliver is happy about that and feels much more comfortable...

Just chillin in his crate! His wounds are healing nicely but we have to keep his thunder jacket on because he won't stop licking and pulling the scabs off. He has so many, I'm sure it must bother him. But he is 100% on the mend. He is my handsome boy!

Many thanks to all who contributed, prayed, and/or shared. Truly Grateful to you all..

For all the times my sister helped others, this fundraiser was to help ease the burden off her so she could devote time to her special man as his wounds mended.

We have met the goal of covering the Vet Dr. bills.  Many thanks!!

May you all be Blessed, ALWAYS!!
