Texas: Why are three rescues and a vet clinic all raising money for the same dog? And why hasn't anyone announced how much was collected or shown proof of the vet bills?

TEXAS -- WARNING GRAPHIC PHOTOS IN THIS POST

Alright, I saw this on another page and checked into it and found they were right in what they were alleging.

There are three rescues (and a vet clinic) raising money for this little dog - which I think we can all agree is a nice thing, but my problem with them doing this is that they seem to be going out of their way to not tell you where the little dog is located, how much the vet bill is, that a 2nd (and a 3rd) rescue are raising money for the dog's care -- and they're definitely not telling you what the total bill was or posting proof of the vet bills.

How much has been raised for this little dog by two separate
rescues? No one knows. Or if they know, they're not telling.

You, of course, are hit with the dramatic story of this little's dogs seeming abuse. Then you uncover the hidden photos to see horrific injuries to his eye.

OK, now that you've gotten past the horrific images, you need to take your emotion out of it and start asking questions...

Nowhere in either of these two posts (see below) do they say that the dog is in Texas (which you wouldn't ever know unless you scrolled through all the comments). If you were on Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs's site, you'd assume the dog was in the NYC area.

Nowhere in either of these two posts do they say how much money is needed to treat this dog.

Nowhere in either of these two posts do they say they have multiple donation sites with a 'sister rescue'. They each have their own links to their own donation sites -- no common fundraising page such as youcaring or gofundme.

Neither donation page says your money is going specifically for this dog.

Neither donation page has anything about this dog - or a running tally of how much has been raised for this specific dog vs how much is needed for the veterinary services.

At least with gofundme-type pages, people list the amount requested and they often will post the actual vet bills to prove the amount they're requesting.

And, it appears that people are posting on Facebook direct requests for money and asking people to send it to the veterinary clinic.

How much money did FAART collect?

On top of that, a 3rd rescue group called Franklin All Animal Rescue Team (FAART) was also soliciting donations for this particular dog.

The unfortunately named Franklin All Animal Rescue Team (FAART) has more than 3,000 followers on Facebook - readers who will donate money as well as re-post their solicitations for money.  Dallas DogRRR - Rescue.Rehab.Reform has nearly 40,000 followers on Facebook. Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs has more than 1,000,000 followers on Facebook. Yes, you read that correctly. MORE THAN A MILLION PEOPLE reading their posts - and donating money.

Yet despite four different places (3 rescues and a vet clinic) all soliciting donations, Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs claims they haven't even raised half the money needed.

Seriously? I mean, let's get real here. The little dog had its eye removed and its jaw wired shut. This is not a $10,000 bill.

Of course, they also haven't released any vet records to show what was actually done to this dog or released any proof of billing totals -- or that these bills are actually being paid (and not 'write offs' by a sympathetic vet).

Yes, the little dog has been treated - you can tell by the first photo at the top of this post. And yes, maybe these are all legitimate rescues, but this whole thing stinks.

Full disclosure is what keeps you from being thought of as shady. Especially since rescue groups have had such bad stuff associated with them -- hoarding & animal cruelty, animal abandonment, theft, adopting out vicious dogs, etc. Rescues need to do everything they can to be beyond suspicion of wrongdoing.

How much money, to date, has been raised? Post photos of the actual vet bills. Stop having money being sent to multiple places... you just need one place with an actual amount needed to be raised.

They're convincing people to continue to send them money when they may have already raised 3x what was actually needed. That's not fair.

Both rescue sites 'donate' links go straight to
their generic donation pages.

And I'm not a fan of these overly dramatic posts. They prey on kindhearted but naive people who will send their grocery money to these groups. From their posts, you'd have thought this little dog was strung up and tortured by some monster when in reality he darted in front of a car while running loose and was accidentally hit. As sad as this is, this happens every day all over the United States.

This sure has been the week for me warning people about doing their homework before donating to online causes. Maybe you should just find a local group you can support...

What is intention? When you speak do you weigh your words like they are diamonds? When you hold a lovers hand or stroke a child's hair, is it done with the maddening love in your heart? What is your intention when a small innocent animal is just trying the cross the road and you end up obliterating him with your vehicle....breaking his arm, his face, fracturing his jaw, eye socket etc? Was it your intent to kill him or are you just so self centered and narcissistic that you could not even give 2 stones that you just almost took a living beings life? You didn't stop so I believe your intention was to kill him. Everyone thought he was dead as he laid on the pavement bleeding out motionless. Then a miracle occurred, Paco said 'Lord, don't put that white sheet on me'
Humans are supposed to be full of love and magic because we know better.... we are supposed to love unconditionally.
