Canada: No evidence of bestiality in animal-cruelty case, Quebec City police say

CANADA -- Quebec City police say that information on social media suggesting a suspect in an animal-cruelty case might have also committed bestiality was unfounded.

In a statement issued Friday, the force said, “Many verifications were carried out by investigators and, according to the results obtained, nothing leads us to believe that the suspect committed bestiality. Information transmitted via social media did not originate from the woman and have proved to be unfounded.”

The police follows the arrest on Nov. 30 of the woman in a Limoilou neighbourhood residence on suspicion of animal cruelty after a video apparently posted by the suspect depicted a dog being thrown across a room.

The woman has signed a promise to appear in court and been forbidden to procure any animals after those found in her home were sent to a shelter. Police said she is respecting the conditions of her release.

ORIGINAL STORY

A woman in her 20s was arrested in a Quebec City home Thursday night after residents complained to police of images posted on social media depicting cruelty to animals.

Some footage of what apparently were part of the postings obtained by news outlets Thursday depicted a puppy being lifted by the scruff of its neck and thrown across a room.

Quebec City police took the woman from the address in the city’s Limoilou district to the station, where she was booked on charges of animal cruelty and bestiality, suggesting police suspect a sexual act involving an animal occurred.

The woman was released from custody after signing a promise to appear in court.

Two dogs and a cat were in the residence when police made their arrest. The animals have been sent to a local shelter for care.
