FLORIDA -- A 21-year-old Gainesville woman is accused of neglecting her two dogs to the point they will probably have to be euthanized.
Kya Benjamin was charged with two counts of aggravated animal cruelty after police say they found her two emaciated dogs living in trash and their own feces at her apartment at 110 NW 39th Avenue (Meadowcrest Apartments).
Police say the dogs, a male Bulldog named Hiro and a mixed-breed female named Famous, didn't have food and were left alone in the apartment for weeks at a time.
Investigators say both animals had injuries and were bleeding when they were rescued.
Animal Control told police that one of the dogs was in critical condition and the other was in serious condition and will likely need to be euthanized.
Code Enforcement was called in reference to the unlivable condition of the apartment, police said.
Benjamin admitted she had not checked on her dogs and knew they were both sick.
Benjamin told investigators she had been trying to sell the dogs on Craigslist.
