Illinois: 76-year-old woman mauled to death by her own Pit Bull

ILLINOIS -- A 76-year-old woman was attacked and killed by her own Pit Bull Monday afternoon in south suburban Alsip.

Officers were called about 3:30 p.m. to a home at 11604 South Komensky Avenue for a report of a person being attacked by a dog in the backyard, Alsip police said.

The woman, identified as Dorothy Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:06 p.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy Tuesday did not rule on her cause and manner of death pending further investigation.

Authorities said Ford and the dog, which was described as a pet, both lived at the home.

The six-year-old Pit Bull was still aggressive when officers arrived and was shot and killed, police said.

No other incidents or complaints involving the dog were previously reported to authorities.
