New Mexico: Las Cruces police investigate after officer shoots pit bull

NEW MEXICO -- Las Cruces police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a dog in the 1200 block of South Valley Drive, police said in a news release Wednesday.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, an LCPD officer was investigating a suspicious vehicle parked behind a business at 1240 South Valley Drive when he was allegedly attacked by a pit bull.


The officer said the dog charged in an aggressive manner, forcing the officer to shoot. The dog was struck by at least one bullet, police said.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment but was subsequently euthanized, police said.

LCPD is investigating the incident.
