Darwin Christian said the attack was the first of two in recent weeks.
"My grandson's arm was bitten open. He was out of school for a week. He had about 50 stitches inside and outside his arm," Christian said.
Christian showed his grandson's hospital report to Channel 11's Brandon Hudson. He said three weeks ago the dog attacked when he was lending a stapler to the dog's owner.
"He was two steps behind me and the dog jetted past me and started shaking my grandson like a fish out of water. Shaking him and I was down on my knees and beating him with the stapler," Christian said.
Michelle McAfferty said that Christian's story is incorrect and that she never asked to borrow a stapler.
"He came in the yard screaming at me. I guess the dog thought he was coming to attack me. That's when the child got bit," McAfferty said.
The dog was 'protecting her' from a stapler |
McAfferty said the dog attacked because her neighbors constantly harass the dog and her.
"I'm even afraid to be out here now," said McAfferty said.
Animal control officials said the dog has been quarantined and did attack another child earlier this week.
Penn Hills police said Animal Control will file dangerous-dog charges and will likely take the dog. McAfferty said she will cooperate.
"I got to do, what I got to do," McAfferty said.
"I called them and said, 'No, you won't put that dog back on quarantine. I want that dog gone and put down,'" Christian said.
