Pistol-packing dog walker shoots pit bull

Hero of the day: TC Lewis
WASHINGTON -- A Kirkland man was walking his German Shepherd in Juanita Beach Park when three unleashed pit bulls attacked them.

The owner of the pit bulls tried to call off his dogs and tackled one of them after it bit the German Shepherd.

Witnesses said the man was not having any luck getting his pit bulls under control.

Tim "T.C." Lewis, the owner of the German Shepherd, tried to get the other two pit bulls off his dog.

"They were trying to take my dog to the ground, so I grabbed one dog by the collar and kicked the other one as hard as I could. I got my dog loose," Lewis said. "He started running, then the other dog came up and he's getting ready to lunge toward me and I pulled my pistol out and I shot him. I feel bad about it but then again, I don't. If he'd have bit me in the leg I'm dead."

If Mr Lewis had not been armed, I am positive his
dog would be dead and he would be mauled.

The pit bull that was shot was rushed to a veterinary hospital and is expected to survive.

Here's the owner acting like an idiot on camera. Someone
keeps calling out the name Justin - probably his mommy,
who is used to coming and bailing him out of trouble.

[UPDATED NOTE: The owner of the pit bulls has been identified as Justin LaValley, who "acknowledged that the dogs were fighting, but said Lewis should not have opened fire. 'At no time whatsoever was his life in danger,' LaValley said."]

No charges were filed against Lewis, who has a concealed carry license. Witnesses backed Lewis' story.
