Child recovering after pit bull attack

Colbert, OK -- An 11-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital tonight.. after she was attacked by a pit bull in Colbert, Oklahoma.

It happened just after 2 pm Monday afternoon -- at a home on Weger road.

Authorities say the girl was playing at her neighbor's house -- when she and the dog owner's daughter went into the pit bull's kennel.

That's when the dog attacked her and bit her on her leg, rib cage and the back of her head.

She was rushed to T-M-C with severe injuries but doctors say she is expected to be okay.

Authorities say the attack was unprovoked. Neighbors say many pit bulls in the neighborhood have a history of violence with other animals.

"The dog is under investigation we are getting the shot records, its been quarantined for 10 days, we'll do a report and send it to the DA's office and decide what we'll do from there,"said Deputy Chad Henry.

No charges have been filed in the case.
