Dog Left In Hot Car Dies, Woman Arrested

FLORIDA -- Police have arrested and charged a 27-year-old Riverside woman with intentionally causing cruel death to an animal.

Investigators said Amanda Foxwell left a dog in the backseat of her car for 90 minutes Friday morning and afternoon.

Foxwell told police she went to the campus of Jacksonville University on University Boulevard to visit her mother around 11:45 a.m. A police report said Foxwell parked in Lot V and left a dog in the backseat of her four-door Chevy Colbalt.

At some point, police said a witness spotted the dog in the car and it appeared to be in distress. Campus police were notified and the report said at 12:52 p.m. a guard notified Foxwell that the dog was in trouble and needed to be taken out of the car.

Foxwell told officers she got distracted and didn't make it out to her car until 23 minutes later, around 1:15 p.m. By then, the report said the dog could not stand on its own.

Foxwell said she took the animal inside and doused it in water. It died a short time later. It’s not clear what type of dog Foxwell had.

Officers at the scene said all the windows of the car were up, except one in the back that was only down an inch. They said the car was parked in an unshaded spot, and there was no water for the dog to drink.

Police said this crime qualifies as felony animal abuse because the suspect knew the dog was in trouble and didn’t act fast enough to help .
