Rangers unleash pet restraint warning after attack

AUSTRALIA -- Busselton rangers are urging pet owners to check their animals are accounted for after a man was fined more than $3,000 (AUS) for inadequately restraining his dog.

Brett Allan Watson's American Bulldog escaped from his car and mauled a terrier in April, causing it to be put down.

Watson pleaded guilty in court and his bulldog will be destroyed.

Busselton ranger Tim Wall says the case should act as a warning to all dog owners and people must ensure their pets are under control at all times.

"They're responsible for it at all times, their responsibility doesn't cease once they walk out the door and go to work or go off, if that dog escapes, they are still responsible for it," he said.
