Marion police Lt. Scott Elam said one officer was bitten on the leg, and the other was bitten on the hand. Both were seen by medics at the scene.

At least six young people in the house were detained for questioning, and charges were pending, Elam said. He said the dog bit an officer as he was trying to subdue a young man outside the house.

“The suspect was not being overly cooperative, and when the officer started grabbing the guy, I think the dog just reacted to the owner being grabbed,” Elam said.

Police said the dog appeared to be a pit bull. Animal control officers took it away.

More details about the incident were expected to be released later Monday.

“We’re still trying to sort everything out,” Elam said.
