Pair of pit bulls enter local home, kill a poodle

KANSAS -- Two pit bulls were captured by Winfield police early Sunday after they entered a local home and killed the homeowner's pet poodle.

Around 6 a.m., a woman, whose name was not released, awoke and turned on the lights to find her dog dead in a pool of blood at the foot of her bed, according to police chief Danny Parker. The incident occurred on E. Sixth Ave.

When the lights came on, the woman saw a pair of pit bulls in her room, one of which ran away.

The woman told police she had left the back door of the home open during the night so her dogs could come and go to use the bathroom.

Officers were able to capture both pit bulls and take them into custody without incident.

The dogs' owner, Aaron Cole, was cited for harboring a vicious animal, dogs at large and no city dog license.

A muncipal court date on the matter is set for Monday, Parker said.
