West Monroe child hospitalized after dog attack

BAWCOMVILLE, LA -- Ouachita Parish deputies are investigating a dog attack on a child reported in Bawcomville.

Maj. James Purvis said deputies responded to the incident on Bawcom Street on Monday. He said a woman was watching a 6-year-old child as well as four pit bulls.

Purvis said the child managed to get into the backyard, where he was attacked by the dogs. He said the child received multiple bites from the dogs.

Purvis said the child was admitted to Glenwood Regional Medical Center but could not comment on the child's condition. He said the child's babysitter was an animal control center employee but not in Ouachita Parish. He also said no citations have been issued or arrests made.
