NEHALEM, OR -- Tillamook County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy who was attacked by the family dog, identified as an American Bulldog, on Saturday morning July 3, while the child was in his grandparent’s car at their home in Nehalem.
Initial reports by investigators identified the dog as a pit bull. The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release Tuesday afternoon revising the breed of dog
Three other family members were injured trying to pull the 135-pound dog off of the child, identified as Michael Naglee. Michael's family was visiting with his grandparents at their Nehalem home.
Deputies said they responded to reports of a dog attack but by the the time they arrived at Robert and Betty Naglee's Nehalem residence, little Michael had been rushed to hospital. He was later pronounced deceased.
In a press release, deputies said they arrived to find the dog "highly agitated" and locked inside a room in the home. Deputies were not able to corral the dog using a dog snare and ultimately shot and killed the canine inside the home.
Michael's parents were not present at the home at the time of the incident.
