WESTMINSTER, MD -- While showing a home to prospective buyers on July 2 we were approached by a friendly Yellow Lab, tail wagging and licking our hands as we approached the house.
What happened as we left the property was anything but pleasant.
The friendly dog crossed the road and was brutally attacked by a pit bull that bit the Lab’s leg, back and latched on to her neck.
My clients and I screamed at the pit bull’s owner to make the dog release its grip. The Lab wailed for help and finally, after my client threatened to hit the pit bull with a skateboard, the pit bull’s owner doused the attack dog with hot water and it released its grip.
The Lab received emergency care for a torn muscle, puncture wounds and lacerations and is healing.
The police were notified and a report was made. Unfortunately, we learned of at least two other incidents with the same dog which were not reported. Perhaps if they had been someone’s pet or perhaps even their child could be spared another attack.
I urge citizens to report to the authorities any such incident so they may do their job protecting the public, and also pet owners please keep your pets on a leash or in a fenced yard.
