Should Pit Bull Owner be Charged after Attack on 7-Yr-Old Boy?

SAVANNAH, GA -- Seven-year-old Javon Roberson seems too young to bare huge scars.  His mutilated face will always be a constant reminder of when two pit bulls escaped from their owner's vehicle and attack him in Treat Park two weeks ago.

“With him being seven, I believe he will probably have the fear of that for the rest of his life,” neighbor Ella Warren said.

Warren fears of the endless nightmares Javon will have and knows his life with never be the same.

“There should be somebody held accountable for this.  A law should be passed that if they’re not on the leash, whatever the situation, they should be charged,” she said.

Warren is scared to keep her gate open anymore, fearful of future dog attacks.  Just the other day, a neighbor asked Warren if she had seen her pit bull that had gotten out of the house.

“She said it was a pit bull, but he was harmless.  I feel like if they have teeth, they can bite,” Warren said.

So when is it an accident and when should people be held accountable for their aggressive pets?

Oregon Emerson said in this situation, the owner wasn’t at fault.

“It appeared it was an accident, however, I’m not the local authority.  I’m sure the owner of the pet is just as emotional traumatized,” Emerson said.

No matter what the reason, neighbors agree, Javon will never forget it.

Javon's Dad told The Coastal Source he's still on medication but can actually speak a little bit.  Javon’s also eating normally and is already playing again.  He's been trying out some of the toys given to him by well wishers.
